An Overview of Lathrop
Once a county rural farm and railroad friendly community, Lathrop was incorporated as a city in 1989. The incorporation of Lathrop triggered a shift from farm friendly to city friendly with a city focused goal. City focus includes attracting and supporting retail, manufacturing, intermodal, service, and corporate businesses.
Lathrop sees many of its citizens graduate with Associate of Arts, Bachelors of Science, and Masters degrees each year from the University of Phoenix and ITT Technical Institute in the fields of Business Administration, Electronics, Network Administration, Software Development, Project Management, Drafting, and Nursing. The educational opportunities are always evolving as the demand from local and new business shifts. Our elementary schools, middle schools, and high school administrative staff continuously seek to improve, modify, or create innovative programs to bring out the best in our young population.
The residents and businesses of Lathrop, both old and new, are adapting to the ongoing dynamics of a city of 20 years by becoming more community involved. Many of our residents and businesses volunteer on committees such as the Christmas Parade, 4th of July fireworks, celebrated on the City’s incorporation date of July 1st, Lathrop Celebrates its Diversity committee, and Lathrop’s Cleanup Day.
The residents and businesses support a variety of sporting events for both the young and old. Currently the City offers sport leagues, senior activities, and a little nightlife dancing. We are always open to change. This is the advantage of being a small city, the ability to shift paradigms to meet the needs of both residents and businesses. We have our feet on the ground; our minds open to opportunities, and our arms ready to welcome those that move to Lathrop. We view a family or business moving to Lathrop as an investor in our community who has a vote on our city’s future.
